Slot Description

Hand of Anubis has a compactly positioned grid of 5 reels and 6 rows. Since the slot uses the cluster pays system,, paylines do not partake in the game. So, to rake in payouts, you’ll need a cluster of matching symbols either in a horizontal or vertical direction. To get things started, wagering in the game starts from a minimum bet of 0.10 coins that ticks up to the max bet of 100 coins per round. The number game becomes even more exciting once we factor in the slot’s max win potential of 10,000x the stake.

But a journey into this nether realm is not without its perils, as evident from the slot’s high volatility math model. Hacksaw has rated the game 5 out of 5 on variance, meaning a big win might take a while to show up. However, a good thing about high-variance games is they offer a better chance to bring something fruitful.

The Hand of Anubis RTP is 96.24%, which is pretty much in Hacksaw’s target range for slots. Even more interesting about this slot is its hit frequency of over 35%. Therefore, even though high volatility permeates throughout the game session, wins will likely show up after every 3 spins. Just note that most payout values are going to be below average.

Hacksaw might have gone minimalist regarding game design in Hand of Anubis. But as we delve deeper into the game, we find a lot goes behind this plain yet bleak underworld setting. With loads of features, multipliers, and payout options, we found this game to offer numerous way-outs through which players can land impressive wins. But let’s dissect this slot further to understand it from every aspect.

Theme, Design, and Sound

The Egyptian-themed slot opens with two Anubises standing guard to the reels on each side. What distinguishes them is the color of their eyes. The pitch dark and smoky setting is a chilling invocation of the underworld where Anubis measures the deeds of the deceased to decide their fate. With all such wrath and temper, it doesn’t look like Anubis goes easy on anyone. And if you find the visuals for the base game dark enough, then the bonus rounds are a notch higher, where the Hell’s Furnace, Grim Reapers, and gruesome beasts wait for you.

The grid style is minimalistic and looks inspired by ELK slots. But as with Mayan Stackways, both Anubis characters get cut out of the screen when playing in a mobile device or portrait mode. Even though Hacksaw aims at mobile-driven slots, missing out on the titular character for smartphones was something we couldn’t approve of.

Anyway, the somber tone of the background score is to the point. The chords hark back to ancient Egypt but carry a minimalist blend of eeriness and menace. So, as long as you play the slot on a desktop or laptop, you will enjoy every bit of the slot’s theme, design, and sound.

Symbols and Payouts

To land wins, you’ll need at least 5 matching symbols of the same type connected either vertically or horizontally. After a win, symbols part of the winning cluster get removed from the grid, and the remaining ones drop down. Meanwhile, new symbols fill the empty positions. This payout process gets repeated if another winning combination emerges on the grid.

At the lower end of the paytable are 10 to A card royals offering 0.10 to 15x the stake for landing 5 to +11 matching symbols simultaneously. The higher end of the paytable consists of popular Egyptian symbols, paying 0.30 to 60x the stake for landing 5 to +11 identical ones in a cluster.

Soul Orbs and Free Spin scatters are the special game symbols, which we will discuss in detail in the next section.

Features and Bonuses

Hand of Anubis is wrapped with some exciting features, including soul orbs and two bonus games. Let’s find out what they are.

Soul Orbs

Red and/or Blue Soul Orbs might appear anywhere on the reels during the main game. These orbs are wild symbols and also carry progressive multipliers. The Red Soul Orb's multiplier increments by +1 for each symbol in a winning combination. As for the Blue Soul Orb, its multiplier increases by +1 for every winning combination.

The multipliers become applicable if orbs are part of a winning combination. Note that if multiple Soul Orbs are part of a winning combination, their values are also multiplied. Multipliers for each orb reset after every spin.

Underworld

Hitting 3 Skull scatters in the base game activates the Underworld feature. The feature starts with 10 free spins and five reel multiplier numbers (starting from 0) displayed below each reel. If a winning cluster hits, the value on the reel meter increases in equivalence to the frequency of the winning symbols on that specific reel. Anubis multiplier modifier might also land on a reel and multiply its reel number by x2 to x10.

However, these accumulated reel multiplier values remain inactive unless a green Orb symbol lands on that reel to activate it. Each time it happens for a reel, you win 3 extra free spins. Activated multipliers add up and get multiplied by the current win amount. Also, the maximum possible value for a multiplier is x9,999.

Judgment

Landing 4 Skull scatter symbols in the main game activates the Judgment feature with 3 respins. The feature starts with reel multipliers above each reel. Only multipliers, special symbols, and blocks appear throughout this feature. The special symbols are:

  • Skull: increments the multiplier of the reel it landed on by up to x100

  • Epic Skull: increments the reel multipliers of all reels by up to x100

  • Anubis symbol: multiplied its reel multiplier by up to x10

  • Epic Anubis: all reel multipliers are multiplied by up to x10

Furthermore, Ice Blocks and Crusher Blocks might also appear during the Judgment bonus. If an Ice Block lands, it gets substituted by a multiplier block carrying a value similar to its reel multiplier. Crusher Block crushes all the blocks in its path until it reaches the bottom of the grid. There, it gains a multiplier value, a collected total of all multipliers it crushed. Note that for every new multiplier, Ice or Crusher block, the number of respins reset to 3.

Buy Bonus

Players can head to the slot’s Buy Bonus menu to instantly trigger any of the two bonus features. The costs for enabling the Underworld and Judgment bonus features are 129x and 200x the stake, respectively. Note that the bonus purchase option might be unavailable in some jurisdictions.
